Il Coda Da Vinci
I was able to watch the movie yesterday. It is said to be breaking box office records worldwide. Even with the R-18 rating here, a lot of people are lining up for the movie. Add to the fact that SM cinemas are not running the movie and it is also banned in Manila, moviegoers are all flocking to the same places/malls.
First and foremost, the movie was not true to the novel. Most of the key story elements are there but I guess they had to adapt it to fit into the length of the movie. The novel was more thrilling than the movie, but of course the art visuals and effects make the movie good enough.
Tom Hanks was okay as Langdon. The only cast member that, I think, was really right for the role as well as played the character superbly was Audrey Tautou. McKellen played a poor Teabing (reminds me too much of Magneto, as well as Aringarosa reminding me too much of Dr. Octopus).
So much for the hype regarding the movie's effects on people's faith. You come out of the cinema with the impression that it really is just a movie, starring Tom Hanks. The novel is a different matter because it's all thinking and imagining as you are reading it, and there is a lot more explaining going on. I guess i was also a victim of the media blitz surrounding the movie. I p[robably would have had a better time watching Over the Hedge.
