The Sentinel

I saw the movie "The Sentinel" a while ago. It stars Michael Douglas, Kiefer Sutherland, Eva Longoria, and Kim Basinger. The story basically revolves around the Secret Service and its' agents. An agent (played by Douglas) is on the run after he was framed as being involved in an assasination plot against the US President. It is said that in the long history of the Secret Service, there has never been a traitor in its ranks. Evidence gathered by Sutherland (Douglas' former friend and partner) points to a mole in the service (Douglas) and he is tasked to catch him. Longoria tags along as the rookie agent/trainee. Douglas' alibi is Kim Basinger (the First Lady with whom he is having an affair). Of course they eventually catch the real culprit and they save the US President. In the end, the mole sort of sacrifices himself and in his dying breath asks Douglas to save his family but Douglas just kicks him aside (so I guess the mole's family later gets killed by terrorists because the mole failed his job).

The plot is okay, although somewhat predictable. It shows a different facet of the life of Secret Service agents. Good performances from Douglas, Sutherland and Basinger. I guess Longoria is the token hottie for the film. There is not much suspense/thriller value in the film since we know from the start that Douglas is innocent. I guess the movie will do good because it'll bank on name of it's stars. I rate it 2 1/2 stars out of 5.
