The Historian
Published in 2005, this lenghty 800+ page historical fiction has become a bestseller for first-time novelist Elizabeth Kostova. It basically concerns the search for Dracula's tomb in the modern era though historical documents and letters. It is quite a complicated but interesting read. Even though it is about vampires, the story telling is suspenseful but not at all scary.
...I think i've written this before, but I have only been scared twice while reading. Those two instances were while reading the short story Jerusalem's Lot and the novel Salem's Lot. Both are about vampires and were written by Stephen King. I had goosebumps while reading those two and I had to put the book down and finish the story in broad daylight.
