Pathfinder
Pathfinder is a remake of a 1987 film, and is due for release on April 13 but already started screening here. The R-rated film (because of violence and brutality) is set in the era of Native Americans prior to discovery by Columbus. A norse boy who was the lone survivor of a shipwreck is adopted by the Indians and raised by them as kin. When Vikings arrive with the intent of plunder and colonization, the young warrior uses his barbaric Norse legacy to avenge and protect his adopted Indian heritage and tribe. Characterized by strong brutal violence throughout, the movie is also a poigniant reminder of Native America and the rough beauty of pre-colonial civilization. The film has passable acting, nice stunts, good cinematography and suspenseful action.
Captain America Winter Soldier V. 2 collects Captain America issue 8-9 and 11-14. Written by Ed Brubaker, the story revolves around Captain America's search for the Winter Soldier who is an enemy assassin. It turns out that Bucky, Cap's sidekick during the war, didn't die and went into suspended animation very much like Cap did. He was discovered by enemy forces and subsequently resuscitated, brainwashed, and used as a skilled assasin/exterminator against America and its' allies through the years. Superb action and artwork, the graphic novel also shows Cap in a more reflective and empathic mood. Getting mixed reviews, all in all I still think it was an entertaining and good read.
