M&M (Mojo & Maya)

Nakapanood ako kanina ng "It's Marching Time: A Superband Weekend for the Graduates of 2007" sa Glorietta 4 Park kung saan tampok ang Mojofly at Rivermaya.

Pathfinder

Pathfinder is a remake of a 1987 film, and is due for release on April 13 but already started screening here. The R-rated film (because of violence and brutality) is set in the era of Native Americans prior to discovery by Columbus. A norse boy who was the lone survivor of a shipwreck is adopted by the Indians and raised by them as kin. When Vikings arrive with the intent of plunder and colonization, the young warrior uses his barbaric Norse legacy to avenge and protect his adopted Indian heritage and tribe. Characterized by strong brutal violence throughout, the movie is also a poigniant reminder of Native America and the rough beauty of pre-colonial civilization. The film has passable acting, nice stunts, good cinematography and suspenseful action.

Captain America Winter Soldier V. 2 collects Captain America issue 8-9 and 11-14. Written by Ed Brubaker, the story revolves around Captain America's search for the Winter Soldier who is an enemy assassin. It turns out that Bucky, Cap's sidekick during the war, didn't die and went into suspended animation very much like Cap did. He was discovered by enemy forces and subsequently resuscitated, brainwashed, and used as a skilled assasin/exterminator against America and its' allies through the years. Superb action and artwork, the graphic novel also shows Cap in a more reflective and empathic mood. Getting mixed reviews, all in all I still think it was an entertaining and good read.

Avengers

The graphic novel Avengers Disassembled by Brian Michael Bendis and David Finch compiles Avengers issue 500 to 503 and Avengers Finale. It chronicles the series of events leading to the break-up of Marvel's supergroup, as well as reprints some key episodes in the Avengers' saga. The artwork is superb but the story is quite lame. It appears that Marvel was trying to come up with an earth-shattering event to sensationalize the comic's 500th but it turned out to be so confusing and implausible (in a comic sense). The hardbound edition is only really worth it for the art and drawings at the end of the book.

...Bestsellers is a new bookstore at Robinson's Galleria. It reminds me of Power Books in terms of the layout, except this store has a very organized magazine rack. The store is not yet really finished though.

Crimson Mist

What would happen if you cross Dracula with Batman? A Vampire Bat probably? Seriously though, this DC Elseworlds graphic novel by Doug Moench, Kelly Jones, John Beatty & Gregory Wright attempts to answer just that. This is the third installation in a series, following Red Rain and Bloodstorm. The Batman in this story was bitten previously by Dracula (and has already become a vampire), and with bloodthirsty power he eliminates Gotham's criminal minds one by one. Not your typical comic book, this is for more mature readers because of the excessive violence. Interesting to note is how the trilogy (story) gets resolved and how Batman redeems himself in the end.

...currently reading/finishing: Dragonlance: The New Adventures. This is Young Adult fiction set in the Dragonlance Realms.

This is the Motorola H350, my Bluetooth headset. It's relatively cheap, lightweight, has a simple design, and easy to use. What's the point of having a phone with handsfree capabilities if you don't get to use that feature, right?

300

300 is due for wide release in the US in theaters and IMAX on March 9. In the Philippines though, it started showing today.

It is based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller and tells the story of King Leonidas and 300 Spartans against Xerxes and his vast Persian army numbering in the million. The story is incredibly riveting, the action and special effects are spectacularly detailed and graphic (but not at all gory). The actors were also quite good.

It is an R18 film because of the violent scenes and nature of the story as well as for breast exposure and adult content. Despite this, based on the number of people who saw the movie today, I think it promises to rake in at the box office.
