Eragon
This series is definitely one of the most popular young adult fiction to come out in recent years. Written by Christopher Paolini when he was just 15 y.o., the two books in the series have sold millions, appreciated by fans both young and old. It tells the story of 15 y.o. Eragon as he discovers a dragon egg which hatches for him, ultimately linking his and the dragon's fates to events in the land of Alagaesia. It then chronicles Eragon's struggles as he trains and grows in power with the purpose of saving the realm from mad King Galbatorix. It has all the components of an epic fantasy series, not as grand as Tolkien's perhaps, but still as endearing and addictive. www.alagaesia.com is the official book site. The 3rd book will probably be released next year.
The first book has already been made into a movie. Eragon the movie is for release on Dec. 15 in the U.S. The book Mythic Vision tells of the road towards the making and completion of the movie. There are lots of pictures and information regarding Paolini, the cast, crew, locations and sets in the movie. A must-read for fans of the book!
Tedbits...
...Congratulations to Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao!!! He is truly a world-class boxer! Filipinos are really good in the "B" sports- boxing, bowling and billiards. :-)
...Celebrity sighting: Francine Prieto. She is tall and very sexy, one couldn't help but turn one's head to follow her walking through the mall. ;-)
...The Taco-style Jolly Hotdog tastes good but the taco topping is very minimal.
...Christmas decors are already adorning the streets, like those along Ayala Avenue. They are well-lighted and very colorful especially at night. The pre-holiday sales of different malls were also held last weekend. I wasn't able to take advantage of it much since I was rather busy during the weekend. My Christmas shopping isn't finished yet.
...I attended the Christening of my 8th inaanak last Saturday at the U.P. Chapel. It was a simple but meaningful ceremony, and the reception was conveniently held at the PCED Hostel just a stone's throw away from the chapel. Congratulations to my cousin and his new family!
